This is *such* a good story so far!

Thank you, Allison. So glad you’re enjoying it.

I am "reading backwards for Christmas". Since I cannot afford to subscribe, I feel obliged to point out a tiny typo here: "Though*t* there was drunkenness and what he calls ‘looseness with ladies’, there was also generosity." (I hope you do not mind.)

Also, in possible redrafts, a pronoun or two were not altered "Our mother takes your father’s death badly." had me confused enough to backtrack in what is otherwise a forward-moving story.

THANK you, Allison, I really appreciate the correction on Thought/though - I do this often, and Grammarly of course cannot find. Of course, the copy editor I gave £1000 to should have found it, but there you go! As for the pronoun confusion, that will be because you missed the beginning of the story. I've been auto-paywalling my content for a bit, but I am going to unpaywall all the novel chapters so you can continue reading backwards (or go back to the beginning and read forwards). She and her missing-possibly-dead brother (who she is addressing with the 'you') do not share a father. Fixing the typo now and unpaywalling the rest of the book. Thanks again!

Thank you for unpaywalling (the urge to hyphenate that is strong, but unfounded). I have 309 pages of final proofs of consolidated financial statements and related reporting to eyeball before getting revelling in to your lovely prose which graces the reader with deft description that delights when one least expects it (and no, not like the Spanish Inquisition). Reading your work at the end of each will be my reward. Gremlins have been known to breed furiously in the vicinity of even those copy editors worth their salt. It’s a hard job killing the little buggers!
